About the Author

Darla Burton, writing as R J Burton, is a Canadian author whose work grew out of a lifelong habit of journaling and poetry, but her writing deepened when she realised that lived experience, hard questions, and faith could become language for others trapped inside stories they had never been given words for. She eventually came to understand that her own story was not going to help anyone left buried between the pages of private journals. What had once been written simply to survive became a way to give others the language she never had, language to name what happened, question what they had been taught, and finally put words to what silence had kept buried.

She is the author of Blaming GOD: A Victim’s Journey and The Tangent Series: Tearing the Veil. Her work explores faith, Scripture, trauma, religious distortion, and the places where the Gospel has too often been obscured by tradition, power, fear, or polished Christian language. She has little interest in baptising what should be confronted, protecting ideas simply because they are familiar, or making truth more palatable for the sake of keeping the peace. Her aim is not to win theological popularity contests. It is to profess Christ faithfully, test what has been taught against Scripture, and say out loud what many others have been taught to swallow quietly.

​Darla writes conversationally, reflectively, and with a fair amount of stubbornness. She is willing to follow a question wherever it leads, even when the answer is inconvenient, controversial, or guaranteed to irritate somebody. Her writing is for readers willing to examine what they believe, why they believe it, and whether what has been called “biblical” actually looks anything like the Gospel it claims to defend.

She lives in B.C., Canada. Outside of writing, she enjoys weightlifting, time with those she loves, and carrying just enough Newfoundland grit  to keep asking the next question. Her family would describe her in loving Newfoundland slang to be “tough as boot leather."
